Skin aging is a natural process that normally begins in our mid-20s and changes the appearance of the skin: fine wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and loss of skin elasticity may occur. These are not only caused by the passage of time, but by a number of external factors such as sun and wind exposure, nutrition habits and stress amongst others.
Until the mid-30’s the epidermis (the uppermost skin layer) is renewed every 25 days approximately. After then, this renewal process slows to a rate of 10 days for every 10 years of life.
The IPL Facial or Photofacial is a cosmetic treatment that aims to reverse some of the signs of skin aging such as:
- Skin hyperpigmentation or sun spots
- Uneven skin tone
- Dull skin appearance
- Larger pore size
- Fine wrinkles
Additionally IPL Facial or Photofacial is also recommended for clients that suffer from broken capillaris, rosacea or acne vulgaris.
Consult with your d-hairemoval esthetician for a personalized assessment and to customize an action plan that best suits your skin concerns and needs.
How do IPL Facials or Photofacials work to reduce and reverse many Skin Aging signs.
IPL Facials or Photofacials act by shortening the natural cycle of the skin renewal process and by promoting the production of collagen.
For acne vulgaris clients, the wavelength that the IPL facial emits acts by killing the bacteria that causes acne making it a highly recommended treatments for clients that suffer from acne flare ups and adult acne.
Am I a candidate for IPL Facial or Photofacial Treatments?
The IPL Facials or Photofacials usually take less than thirty minutes at d-hairemoval Beauty Concept. Most patients will have a series of five to eight treatments; each treatment is about two to three weeks apart. Because Photofacials are performed in a series, you will see more improvements after each treatment. Photofacials are especially indicated for clients with sun damage and broken capillaries as well as those prone to rosacea and acne vulgaris flare ups.
The Photofacial is quick, affordable, there is no recovery time and it can be combined with other skin rejuvenation treatments such as Botox and dermal fillers.
What Should I Expect with Photofacial?
The IPL Facial or Photofacial is a safe non-invasive method that involves applying pulses of light that penetrate the skin without damaging the surface layer-epidermis.
An ultrasound gel will be applied onto the treatment area/s and several passes will be conducted. You will feel a prickly and warm sensation. The IPL settings will be adjusted to your skin type and pain tolerance. A darkening of the sun spots may occur. After your IPL Facial your skin will look more even and brighter. Over a series of sessions suns spots, fine wrinkles and expression lines may be reduced.
IPL facials are ideal to combat the signs of aging in face, decollate and hands. It is also recommended for the back for those that regularly sunbathe or have acne breakouts in the back.
How many sessions of Photofacial do I need?
The number of sessions you will need depends on your skin type and concern. 6 to 8 sessions spaced two to three weeks apart are generally required for a complete successful course of IPL Facial treatment.
When will I see results?
On average, clients see results after the first couple of sessions and can expect significant improvement after six to eight sessions.
IPL Facials or Photofacials Pre-treatment Care

If medically prescribed, please consult with your doctor as the wait time might range from weeks to months depending on the product.

- Immediately after the IPL session some darkening of sun spots may occur. Do not pick them as they eventually will flake off.
- After any light based treatment, it is highly advisable that you routinely apply sun protection of +30 SPF.
